Where the seller of a home is not (yet) affected by falling sales prices, we see this happening with the rents of private sector homes.
Since the beginning of the corona crisis, we have seen a steady decrease in rents, this is partly due to the absence of the many expats who normally come to work here, which means that a landlord is left vacant for longer, but also partly because there are few to no tourists who normally book their holiday accommodation through Airbnb. Landlords of homes that are rented out through Airbnb are now also vacant.
This means that there is now more housing supply on the market than there was before the crisis, and if the housing supply grows, rents will naturally fall.
Obviously, landlords do not want their homes to be vacant for a long time and are therefore increasingly choosing to lower rents.
